The Golden Globes is kicking off the awards season this weekend, and in times of economic hardship, everything from toys and packaging choices to Hollywood styling trends are taken a cue from the past.
The NY Times points out the imprudence for extravagant display of ostentatious consumerism.
Stylists agreed that curls will frame necklines, replacing jewel-crusted chandelier earrings, as the newest fashion accessory. Kohl-ringed eyes, like those peering beneath the Bond girl Eva Green’s bouffant at the 2007 Academy Awards, will be replaced by softer, smoky colors. And if anyone is wearing handmade mink eyelashes such as those promoted by Jennifer Lopez in recent years, it is likely they won’t be bragging about them.
Classic styles that started in the Depression era, epitomized by Veronica Lake, Lauren Bacall, and Grace Kelly, are making a comeback this awards season. Apparently, understated, elegant, sultry innocence is what will dominate the red carpet for the foreseable future.Â
