I don’t know how much credit can be given to French Vogue for resurrecting vintage pinups, since the genre has been explored and re-explored numerous times in the last couple of years. Regardless, not the worst way to introduce unknowns and newcomers to the modelling world.  But back to artistic merits, is there some sort of collective artistic block at play here, because the girls look uninspired and the collection as a whole just plain LACKS! How do you count the ways it’s off? There are no colours nor props to add to the playfulness of the girls. It looks as though most of the models strain too hard to be sexy, and there’s just too much skin and platform shoes that make the overall result chunky and harsh.Â
Can’t help but feel like I’ve seen it all before. Oh wait, I have. Vintage pinups, introducing newbies … Vanity Fair has been doing this since 2006, and what a great job they always do! Thoughts?

It is indeed sad to see that the concept of pinups is up for FHM pictures without class. In the case of the 2009 Vogue calendar it’s apperant that the word pinup justified the range of tasteless pictures. Comparing these pictures against the HIGH class pictures made by Vanityfair makes me hope that this calendar is not even given to the public for free!
