Comic strip inspired movies are usually not my thing - too much flash and too little substance. The Spirit by Frank Miller is really no exception. The characters are cardboard-like and two-dimentional, the storyline fantastical, the narration wooden and offers little introspection.
But that’s hardly the point. The movie is all about styles, and styles it’s got plenty of. Ruby lips, cleavages, and posings of the various femme fetales are all reminiscent of the glamorous vintage eras.  For me, this had the ambiance of Dark City plus Sin City, with references to Kill Bill.Â
