Vintage love-in of the day: In the Mood for Love

December 13, 2008

Some movies I watch for the story, some for the actors, some for the special effects, some for the punch-line, some because I have to, and there are those that I watch for the pure pleasure of immersing myself in an unadulterated luxury of intoxicating beauty.  How else can you explain In the Mood for Love?  Recognized at Cannes and BAFTA, this movie is a love affair that thrives on intentional silences, deeds undone and words unspoken.  The subtleties are full of grace and masterful, especially when punctuated by lush colours and costumes.  Everything about the movie is at once bold and delicate, and did I mention that it is subtle?  See it, what are you waiting for?
