Weekly vintage fug: Plaid

November 27, 2008

I have mixed feelings about plaid. This American staple has been resurrected many times since its claim to fame in the 50s by the prepsters. Since then, ranchhands, grunge rockers, the Dukes of Hazzards, have all taken a page from this Scottish tradition and claimed it their own.

Now, there are many ways of rocking plaid the right way. The Olsens, Sarah Jessica Parker, and many many streetsmart kids have done it. Thus, it truly pains my heart, not to mention my eyesight, to spot Tom’s KatE in this. It’s bag lady + Little House on the Prairie that reminds me of Pioneer outfits worn by those polygomous cult members from Utah.

I can’t, even.
